The Best Tour Gift Cards & Vouchers

Share this:

You really can’t put a price on a brilliant experience: watching an impossibly gorgeous sunset from a hot air balloon or exclusive rooftop bar, tasting delicious fresh local delicacies or visiting the bucket list attractions of a place you have only ever dreamed about.

Tours really are one of the best ways for anyone, no matter what age, to rediscover somewhere familiar or explore somewhere completely new. Be that as part of a like-minded group to share the experience with, or on a private tour with just you and a guide, or with friends and family.

I am a big fan of small, locally led tours. They’re simply the most convenient (and I think fun) way to explore somewhere or something without the hassle of driving or getting public transport. Instead, you’re picked up and shuttled around with a knowledgeable local guide where you can truly relax, have fun and often experience way more perks and sights than if you went independently.

A tour also makes a wonderful gift for someone who is a travel-lover, a weekend-warrior or an everyday adventurer. A tour gift voucher can be an especially great present for someone who has an overseas trip coming up, or is the kind of person that likes to discover new experiences closer to home.

Below I have rounded up some of the best tour gift vouchers and gift cards on the market, allowing you to give someone the gift of a special memory at home or abroad. The best bit? The choice of how and when the recipient uses the experience is completely in their hands!

1. Tinggly Experience Box

I absolutely love Tinggly experience vouchers (in fact I gave one away for my blog’s 5th birthday giveaway!).

Their motto is “give stories – not stuff”. It’s a very simple concept: buy a themed box or digital gift card which will be posted or emailed to the recipient. They then have an unlimited amount of time to redeem the voucher on their pick from thousands of experiences all over the world!

There really is a massive choice of activities and tours too. I was surprised at just how many there are on my doorstep alone. I also love that they’re themed based on the occasion (such as Christmas, wedding or birthday), destination (like Europe or Australia), or on the experience type (once-in-a-lifetime, hot air balloon etc).

It’s rare to find companies that do not have an expiry date on voucher redemptions, so this is a huge draw and why I think it trumps many other tour gift vouchers on the market.

Not only this, they also plant trees with every purchase through the Eden Reforestation Project as 1% of sales get donated to an environmental cause.

Benefits of a Tinggly gift voucher:

  • Lifetime validity (no expiry for redemption)
  • Thousands of experiences all over the world
  • A nice presentation box if you want to physically give something
  • Digital voucher option for a custom amount
  • Multiple currencies (USD, GBP & EUR)
  • Cool themes based on the occasions, experience type or destination
  • Charitable donation with every purchase

Cons of a Tinggly gift voucher:

  • Nothing obvious, perhaps more choice of purchase currency (e.g. AUD, NZD)

2. Get your guide Tour Gift Voucher

Get your Guide is one of the most popular and trusted online marketplaces for guided tours and excursions, especially in Europe. They offer tour gift vouchers to purchase and redeem on any of their advertised tours.

Like Tinggly, you don’t need to select a specific experience. Simply buy a digital voucher and it can be redeemed on any tour the recipient wants to book. The benefit of going with Get Your Guide is that you can choose a voucher of any value you like.

The voucher can be printed and customised with a personal message to give someone in person, or it can be sent digitally via email.

Vouchers are valid for three years, which is quite generous considering many companies only offer one or two years.

There are also over 60,000 activities to choose from all around the world. From cruising around the Seine, dining under the stars at Uluru or road tripping around Scotland whiskey tasting, recipients will be absolutely spoiled for choice at the tour options available.

Benefits of a Get Your Guide gift voucher:

  • Three year validity
  • Thousands of experiences all over the world
  • Digital so voucher is received instantly
  • Custom voucher value
  • A massive choice of purchase currency
  • A well-regarded brand

Cons of a Get Your Guide Tour gift voucher:

  • No lifetime validity for vouchers
  • Only digital (or printable), no possibility to post anything
  • No theme or style options for the printable voucher

3. Buy a Gift UK Experience Box

If you’re buying for someone based in the UK, a great company offering unique experience packages is Buy a Gift.

Just like Tinggly, they offer experience boxes which can be mailed to the recipient. Or, they can be sent in the form of a digital voucher to claim on any experience of their choice around the UK: England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

They also don’t necessarily have to be a travel or tour themed experience either which makes it a much more versatile present. The voucher can be redeemed against things like a weekend cottage break, spa days, car driving experience, afternoon teas and more.

Buy a Gift offers some pretty niche and cool experience box themes like adventures for the family, for teens, date nights and Christmas.

Pros of Buy a Gift experience boxes

  • Redeemable on hundreds of tours or experiences
  • Specific to the UK
  • A nice presentation box if you want to physically give something
  • Digital voucher options for an instant gift
  • A variety of themed boxes for different occasions
  • Good value boxes (one of the cheaper options on the market)

Cons of Buy a Gift experience boxes:

  • Only valid for UK experiences (not international)
  • Two year validity – fairly short
  • Digital vouchers are pre-set values only (e.g. £25, £50, £100 etc) and not customisable

4. A Viator Tour

Viator is a tour company by TripAdvisor, offering over 300,000 travel experiences.

Although they don’t offer tour gift vouchers as such, they do offer the biggest variety of tours some of the most flexible payment and cancellation options on the market. Many of their tours can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance with no charge.

So that means if the recipient has a trip coming up and you want to book them a specific tour to make it even more special (perhaps something they mentioned they’d love to do), you can book it and leave the finer details down to them. It’s certainly a more thoughtful option.

Viator has 24/7 support, so if the date you originally booked for the receiver doesn’t work, they can easily move it to a date of their choice, or transfer it to something else.

The company also offers a range of virtual experiences which are a great idea to do together when distance (such as a continent or two) is in the way. Think virtual cooking classes, craft classes and group games.

Pros of a Viator experience:

  • One of the largest selections of tours on the market
  • 24/7 customer support
  • Flexible cancellation and payment options
  • A reputable brand
  • Allows you to choose a specific experience or activity
  • Virtual experiences available

Cons of a Viator experience:

  • Not a gift voucher, a specific experience needs to be booked
  • Requires some admin if the recipient can’t make the date selected
  • No e-voucher or physical to give someone

Forget bath bombs, candles or a boring bottle of wine – experience or tour gift vouchers are simply one of the best and most thoughtful presents you can give someone with an adventurous spirit. Gifting a tour will create stories and memories that will last longer than any physical gift ever could.
